I went back up to my friends camp this weekend and had a great time. Except for one little thing. The damn spider that decided to attack me while I was sleeping. Some how my hands got chewed up by the spider. I can tell it's a spider by the number of welts and how close together they are. I must have at least 30 bites between my two hands. It's crazy!! I am glad it was only my hands though. If it had gone after my face it would not have been good. I must have really pissed off some spider when I slept where I did.
Luckily they don't itch much but they sure look bad. Well the tasty beer at the Adirondack Brewery was worth it all. Next time I'll just have to remember to spray my area of the camp. Geeze!
Two friends of mine that have a camp up north about two hours asked me to join them on their little treck up there today. They wanted to check on the camp to see how it was doing after the winter and also wanted to visit a few friends who own Adirondack Steak and Seafood Company right in Lake Placid. The picture of the bar (top middle) was probably taken from right where we sat. Food was amazing and their brewed beer was awesome.
The drive up is beautiful. The Adirondacks are a must visit for any nature lovers who are in the Northeast. The weather was cloudy but no rain so no complaints. We stopped a few places to check out some water falls and some rivers. With all the rain we have had and the melt off from the mountains they were all running well. I took a bunch of pictures of some of the things we saw.
Lake Placid is where the Olympic Winter Games of 1980 were held with White Face as the main mountain.
It was definitely a fun day and I look forward to going back up to the camp. They invited me and it will be a lot of fun. Their friends at the restaurant were amazing and I look forward to seeing them again.
This weekend could not have been any better weather wise. After a delay by two snow storms the beginning of April, Spring is finally here! You can always tell because the Crocus start to pop up everywhere and give the brown leaves from the Fall before a little splash of color. With the weather so perfect I couldn't resist taking some time to get out there and take some shots of these little beauties.
I started watching the new series Planet Earth on Discovery Channel tonight. There is only one thing I can really say about it...WOW! The images are amazingly beautiful. After watching the first few minutes I couldn't take my eyes off the television. I found myself not wanting to miss a single second of it.
Watching how animals behave in their natural environments is both intriguing and memorizing. You get to see how adaptive they are and how they go about their lives. Discovery doesn't just show you the happy parts but stays true to what nature is all about. For example they showed a baby elephant that had gotten lost in a dust storm while searching for a water hole. This baby elephant would unfortunately parish. It was following it's mothers path but in the wrong direction. It was heart breaking to watch but at the same time really makes clear how nature is about survival of the fittest. Discovery does an amazing job of bringing parts of our world that many of us may never get to see otherwise right to our livingrooms.
If you have not had the priveledge to catch the show tonight, I highly recommend that you do. I plan to record the second airing of the first three parts of this 11 part series later tonight. After taking five years to make this series I know it will be nothing less than breath taking each and every episode. There is a great list of the episodes on the Discovery Channel website.
We had a horrible ice storm in upstate NY this past weekend. These are some pictures I took. Not the best but show how icy it was.
This is a shot of a tree that was about 3 stories high and it was bent over in a "N" shape. The top got closer and closer to the ground as the day went on and the ice built up. It got to about a foot off the ground before it snapped.

Photos of the ice on branches...

Ice on the bird feeders...

The grass with ice on it. It looked like little fingers all through the lawn...
